Attaching/Linking Attributes/Columns to UI Element
« on: March 11, 2003, 05:55:52 am »
I am diagraming a UI using the custom diagram with Screens and UI Controls.  I would like to link attributes to the UI Control so that designer know which data elements I am refering to in the database or class.  Drag and drop does not work and attribures are not available on the context menu.  Ideally, I could to a shallow copy of an attribure.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

G'day,

Maybe not quite what you're looking for, but I'll throw it out there anyway.

Drag the database table to your GUI (custom) diagram, link the table and UI Control with an association, and then set the source OR target role in the properties of the association to the attribute of interest.

For the diagram (or just the table), set the properties to hide attributes and operations.

This way, your designers see the attribute that the UI Control is linked to, and also which table the attribute comes from.
Cheers and best regards.

Thank you very much.  This did what I wanted it to do, but it the RTF documentation only shows the link to the table and not any information about the role.  i installed 3.5.1.605 today, but that did not help for the UI elements.

Very pleased with EA,
