How to restore lost properties pane?
« on: June 09, 2006, 03:00:45 am »
I've lost my EA properties pane [build 790].  I may had accidentally dragged it somewhere (off-screen?), but it isn't there now.  It's selected in the "View" menu, but it won't let me deselect it.  Nothing I've tried has restored it.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Or should I just re-install EA?  Thanks a lot in advance for any help,
Cheers, Tony.

I'd first increase the screen density (even if lower colours) in the hope of actually finding the pane.

Unfortunately EA's unique interface doesn't present the usual Windows interface of [Alt-Space] providing access to the Window mini-menu that includes the Move capability.  You might have been able use this to attempt to bring the pane back into view using arrow keys...

HTH,
Paolo
[Edit: [Alt-e] amended to [Alt-Space] above - Simon's later post will no longer make sense - aonther window must have popped up while typng and the spell checker didn't pick up the error]

I'd try resetting the layout to the default.  (View | Visual Layouts | Default Layout)  That usually fixes layout issues.  Re-installing is unlikely to work unless you're also upgrading to a version that includes new docked windows.

By the way Paolo, [Alt-e] does the same thing in EA as just about every other windows program I can think of, open the edit menu.  I can't think of any standard for opening a mini-menu for dockable windows, via keyboard or not.

Apologies, Simon, I've corrected the error in my original post, it should have read [Alt-Space] not [Alt-e].  Your point that there is no standard, is taken, but since EA doesn't implement [ALT-Space], there's not much pointing asking about the interior windows.

I would argue that each undocked window should be able to be moved with the windows movement keys.  In fact, the [Alt-Space] standard should include the Home key moving the top left of the windows to the top left of the screen so it would return the window to a known place.
