How can I use Enterprise Architect for Team work?
« on: August 23, 2006, 07:07:30 pm »
Hi,

Can you help me the way that my team can work with Enterprise Architect? I want to share data as team work server with features: user's permission, check-in, check-out, version control, ... At now, I use Enterprise Architect Corporate Edition for my work.

Thanks

For your team work seems suitable setting up a database repository on your team work server:
First you have to prepare the database with script provided by Sparx and than just start a new repository project, enable security and set need of user locks to change elements. As an administrator of that repository you can allow different users access different elements/packages/views.
I am not sure what you mean by check-in/out, but logging of user activity is (as far as I know) not provided within EA. You can see (and report) who creted which element.
The versioning is possible in EA via CVS and others. Investigate in help and this forum, I do not use it myself and do not want to confuse you.

Using version control in EA is quite simple. See this Sparx manual about version control: http://www.sparxsystems.com/WhitePapers/Version_Control.pdf.
More difficult is to decide wich way to deploy EA in order it can support your needs. See different deployment schemas in above-mentioned tutorial. Each deployment model has it's cons and pros. (see also my topic http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=general;action=display;num=1156336926)

Has anyone had success integrating EA with Vault, the SQL based SCC that competes strongly with Microsoft's Source Safe?

Thx

Hugh, maybe you should try the search function. It revealed an answer at once.
