Laying out a flow chart
« on: October 11, 2006, 12:01:43 pm »
I am creating an activity diagram.

I began with an "Initial" symbol at top of page, beneath that a decision diamond and beneath that another decision diamond.

I joined these using the "Control Flow" arrow.

I then tried Layout Diagram and it decided to lay it out upside down, that is it turned my diagram upside down and had the second decision diamond at the top of the page etc.

This is ridiculous, if there is no way to control this sort of of laying out then I am seriously going to be challenegd selling this to a team of busy BSAs.

Hugh,

We in user land been waiting for improvements to this for some time.

To be fair to Sparx, the layout function is primarily for structural diagrams. They have been very clear on this, and this is documented. There is even a warning that layout will often provide unsatisfactory results for other diagram types.

My suggestion is to request this as a feature. Provide specifics of what needs to be improved to satisfy your requirements, and keep the wish list short enough that Sparx could quickly make the changes you need now. Repeat as required.

No, you can't have it!

Hugo, this page in the help file describes how to access the options for Autolayout. You can change the direction here.
