CBDI SAE Metamodel for SOA and a UML Profile
« on: March 14, 2008, 08:29:50 am »
The consultancy CBDI has recently announced both a published metamodel and a UML profile to support an architectural approach to SOA modeling. The UML Profile was created using EA (that is the interesting bit).

These items can be obtained from http://www.cbdiforum.com/public/CBDI_SAE_META_MODEL_FOR_SOA_V2.0.php3?order=asc#comments

and [email protected].

But Bronze membership of the CBDI Forum is free, so what is the problem? (I had to register with Sparx to post this comment.)

Yes, but I ran the Bronze registration, and have yet to receive my password.

So where does that take us?

Should be automatic.

Sometimes of course the automated response is caught in spam traps... as such things are prone to.

But Bronze membership ...
Well, I'm always a bit reluctant in subscribing somewhere. However, I'm happy about that subscription as the document really looks very promising. :)

All I can find is the PDF file describing the metamodel. Am I missing something?

EDIT: And yes, sending the message did get the credentials issue solved promptly.

Sorry if there is any confusion!

The current version of the UML profile is an early release, so it's being sent by email to anyone who wants it. CBDI is providing a forum to discuss it, and will provide version updates.

At some point in the future, when the UML profile is more stable, it will probably be available as a simple download, as the metamodel is already.

I understand that some people have received the extended version already. The base version is undergoing some further testing, and should be sent out early next week.

Thanks for the clarification Richard,

Please touch base with me via the PM feature of the forum when it is ready, and I'll do the legwork from there.

As a bronze member you also obtain access to other useful articles on CBDI's approach to SOA (probably better than IBM's SOMA), the Metamodel and the UML Profile.

Enjoy!

Except as noted above.

So for now I have the description of the profile, and am waiting for the 'real' thing.

The mail below from CBDI suggests we will get the real thing next week:

Thank you for your request for the UML Profile for the CBDI-SAE Meta Model for SOA V2 – Base Version
This is just to let you know that we decided to perform some additional load testing on the base version before shipment.
We now plan to send out the base version early next week, so will follow this up with an additional email.
Thanks for your interest in the profile, and we look forward to your feedback.

Regards

Today I received a copy of the profile :)  Looks likes someone has done quite a bit of work. Will definitely take some time to dig into this.

Btw: found a bug with EA when you make the profile visible in the toolbox. Objects appear as "Open Folder" and can't be dragged on a diagram. The resource pane works, though. Will report that.

This relates somehow to the Hidden Menu feature of toolbox panes. I have found this feature to be somewhat fragile.

If you have not defined a toolbox profile - and defined it very precisely - this behavior results. Try right-clicking the 'open folder' icon and see if that helps.
