Master document header and footers

Is there anyway to confirm what controls the headers and footers for a master document?  Does the master document template dictate the overall document headers and footers or is it the template of the first virtual document linked in?  Possible feature to keep the headers and footers for each virtual document as is.  This would support the scenerio where the title page has no headers or footers, a revision history with some different footer than the actual content.
