synchronize Tagged Values more better?
« on: September 03, 2009, 08:25:59 am »
Hello,

I'm really enjoying the UML Profiles capability. It makes EA much more useful.

And I appreciate your adding the synchronize capability in order that I can get close to avoiding a mini 'legacy' problem with the data entered before I decide I need to change something in the profile.

But...

When I create some elements with one 'version' of a stereotype and then need to add a new property or a new item to an enumeration referred to in a property, I don't always see that property or enum item in the new version of the stereo type when I synchronize.

And the dialog for performing the synchronization doesn't give a positive feedback about the synchronize behavior. I push 'ok' and the dialog seems to blink in agreement, but then I have to close it with the close window 'x' box. so I'm not sure whether I'm missing something critical about that part of the process, although the times I ignore that ambivalent behavior, some things have changed.

By removing the old profile and replacing it with a new profile i can get new instances of the stereotype to work properly. But i sense this will interfere with the 'legacy' instances becoming aware of the changes, if that is possible at all.

So is it possible that existing instances of a stereotype can become aware of changes to its source UML Profile? would this be true of at least added values or properties?

If that is possible, is there a best practice for the procedure of accomplishing the synchronization that I can perform dependably?

Thanks,

Kimball

ohh, I have the same problem. We have only changed an enumeration of a tagged value and you have to change every occurrence in a class and change the list for this tagged value.

Is there any other way to deal with this Problem?

I have the same issue. I have modified a UML Profile I recieved from someone else and begun to employ it. I have about 180+ objects created and now find that I need to make some modifications to the profile. Trying to make modifications to the profile (in a test project) by deleting and re-importing an updated profile leaves me unable to access the tagged values of anything created with the old version of the profile. If I'm doing something wrong, I'd love to know what. If not, I'd love to know that there is a way around this. I do not relish recreating the work I've already done. Any way to directly manipulate the data to get around this?
