Cross-linked notes?!?
« on: August 21, 2012, 06:05:52 pm »
I had a note with a pretty long text. Copied the whole note to a different diagram, and edited it, removing most of the text.
Then went back to my original diagram, and the text there was changed too! Undo didn't work either.

Is this intended behavior?

Hi
You need to paste the element as a new element - right click and choose paste as new element
Using V12

A note is not an element - at least it doesn't appear in the project browser.

Thank you.
I think I'll file this as a bug report - things that aren't in the project browser should be pasted as new element by default.

A little side effect was that we realized our backup task was not running. Good thing it was just a page of text.

A note IS an element. Like a couple of others (e.g. boundary, fork/join) it is suppressed in the browser. Why? EAUI, most likely.

Creating links that are not obvious to the user is dangerous. You might only realize days later that the changes to the "copy" you made also ruined your "original". Especially in such cases, a restore is difficult, as a lot of other data might have been changed in the meantime.

Entities such as boundaries, notes, and legends can be pasted as links.

I vaguely a feature request for this in the dark dim past, they do not come equipped with a "find in all diagrams" context menu item.

You could add a feature request to support this.

Oh, I can see use cases for linked notes. It's just very unexpected as default behavior. Especially since they do not appear in the project explorer.

That's why we "old-timers" (some VERY Old) call it EAUI...
