Copying user groups and users between projects
« on: March 20, 2013, 05:59:56 pm »
I've aleady set up user groups and users (which I have then assigned to relevant user groups) in project1.eap. Is there any way I can copy/import that over to project2.eap, for which I want exactly the same security set up as for project1?

Export reference data should work

Project|Model Import/Export|Export Reference Data and select "Security.

Hi Andy,

Through export/import reference data (menu project -> model import/export ->Export reference data.

The group 'Security' contains what you need. keep in mind that this will -add- to security users/groups/permissions in the target eap  ;)

best regards,

Paulus

Many thanks, Geert and Paulus. That's saved me a lot of re-keying.

Another option is to configure EA to use the same tables for both databases. Actually, it's a db config, but EA 10 makes it easier to do. Look for shared repository in the help.

This method has the advantage that subsequent changes to either repository will change both.

Good pointer. I haven't noticed that new feature. Will definitely look into that.
