Multiselect in the Project Browser
« on: November 18, 2003, 09:58:35 am »
Hi,

I often find myself needing to edit several objects in the Project Browser in exactly the same way - e.g. entering the same tag value to several objects. It would be great if I could select more than one object in the tree and edit them all at once.
What more, I often need to move objects between packages, as projects grow, the structure is changing. Instead of moving them one by one, I would love to be able to select several of them and drag and drop them together.

Thanks,
Bruno

Hi Bruno,

You can add my vote for this feature. I find myself in the same position for elements as well as for changing or moving / copying attributes and methods.

Just want to add my specific ideas (wants) to this.
When either analysing or designing, I find that I want to quickly add an element or three to the diagram.  Sometimes I am working on more than one diagram (hint - see the MDI thread!) and adding elements fairly quickly.  This is fine and dandy in EA and I have no problems with it adding these elements to the tree at the current "package point".
When I'm through and done with the thinking quickly part and move on to the more considered work I now have elements spread throughout the model - often having created more than one representation of the same thing.
It would help greatly to have a "model reorg" feature that let me move the elements around as I try and get a structural view and to let me rationalise the duplicates I have created.
I reckon this situation would be even more useful in multi user environments.
My vision would be an full screen tree view of the project that was filterable by element type allowing multi select drag-n-drop (extended i.e. shift and ctl and ctl-shift multi selects). This would also allow the user to "replace" an element somehow by dropping it on top of another or something, changing all references to the "dropee" to the "dropped" element.
Anyway, as I said ... thats my two cents worth.
"It is not so expressed, but what of that?
'Twere good you do so much for charity."

Oh I forgot, we aren't doing him are we.

Absolutely - this would be a great addition.  Please can we have it?

Multi-select just for moving elements would be a big improvement for me - even without the more advanced features mentioned above.

Especially, it can be a hassle to sort elements into packages after reverse-engineering a large project for the first time.

Yes, I was very surprised to see that I couldn't do multi-selects in the project browser.

This would be a very nice feature.
