Synchronize Replicas
« on: October 18, 2006, 06:59:37 am »
Hi,

It would be nice for me, before performing a master/replica synchronization to display a report of the differences between my replica and the master copy.

Is this feature already available? If so, how could I access to it? If not so, is it planned for coming released of EA?

Thank you
Andrea

Would the Compare Models function work here?

You can reach it from the EA main menu via Tools | Data Management | Data Compare.
No, you can't have it!

I have a similar need for a comparison of different EAP / XML changes to make peer review of changes easier.

The Data Compare / Project compare seems to be doing a comparison of the internal structure of the data.  Is there a way to get a higher-level change list that may include a graphical comparison?

In fact, the Data Compare is too much low level (it is not useful for me to know if the number of records in an EA table is changed!).
What I need is something which explains me if new diagrams or objects have been added or deleted or modified (and where they are located in the tree structure).
I still did not find this kind of feature.

Quite right folks.

Sorry about that. I was actually thinking of the "compare utility" or diff function within EA.

On reflection, AFAIK this feature only applies to comparing baselines. If you can organize your models as such perhaps it would help.

[EDIT: This feature does not compare diagrams "at this time" (build 799 is current as I write this) so would not be a fit for some of the instances you've cited.]

Otherwise, this sounds like add-in time. One could imagine a generic comparison add-in, but my best (but completely uneducated) guess is that something small and tailored to your individual organization (or even project) would likely get done sooner and pay off better when development time is factored in.

Sorry about steering you wrong earlier.
