Floating licenses server
« on: June 10, 2008, 04:12:06 pm »
Right now the floating licenses work on a file, which means write permissions must be given to all users (a lot in my case). This puts the file at risk of being corrupted (it happnes to us) and also if a client gets stucked ther's no roll back mechanism.
I think a floating lisences server or aquiring the lisences from a DB would make it safer.
It is vcery unpleasent to get a call from work that EA can't be opened because of licenses file issue (spetialy if you have 250 of those licenses...)

Not only that, but if you are sharing with someone outside your 'immediate family' you have to trust them with that file share. This could mean extending privileges to a contractor (say) where you might not have otherwise done so. Depending on your corporate policies this could lead to unanticipated compromises, or additional security architecture work, all in response to external constraints. Rarely a desirable situation.
No, you can't have it!

.... and using such a mechanism would allow to keep easily track of the floating license usage and to make graphics of the usage (average and peaks).
