Wider 'Recent' Box in Start Page
« on: July 23, 2008, 08:59:32 am »
Looks like the 'Recent' box in Start Page is hard-coded to display only 31 or 32 characters of file name for EA projects.

I tend to be fairly liberal in using long file names, with version and date at the end of the name.

So when I try to open a project from Start Page, all I see is multiple projects all with the same first 32 characters, with the information that would tell me which one I want to open at the end of the file name. Which I can't see.

Can this display field / box be widened to say 128 characters or so?

This problem seems also to exist with other 'open file' windows and dialogue boxes - I can't resize the 'Open Project' window - it's hard-coded to a defined window size.

Agreed!

Have you sent in a feature request (to Sparx)?

There are several places - as you point out, but not limited to 'open' dialogs - where a resizable list would help. Some are mostly annoyances, while others make it almost impossible to find the correct entry.

No - wasn't aware that users are able to formally submit feature requests (I was thinking perhaps Sparx would be tracking this forum and using it for that purpose. Delusional again.).

I will sniff around the EA website, find the feature request form, and do my small bit for improving EA.

I note that EA is becoming the dominant modelling tool (after Visio) for major dev projects here in Melbourne. Three years ago I had to explain what EA was to people. Now they're already using it wherever I go.

To save you some sniffing time, just click the Feature Request link below the Support link near the bottom of any forum page.

The Sparxians do participate actively in the forum, but sending a feature request directly is the 'official' way to make the request, and still the best route. This is a user forum, so posts here are not guaranteed to make it onto the list for consideration.

Still, please start a thread in the forum - as you've done here - for each new suggestion. This allows the rest of us, users and Sparxians alike, to get involved in the discussion. Often solutions, workarounds, or improvements are posted. It's also a good idea to paste in the title and URL of the forum thread when you make the feature request, so the Sparxians can more easily join any discussion.

Finally, if you hear back from Sparx on the request, please post back to the forum thread to keep the rest of us in the loop.

David

Meanwhile, the situation here in the Frozen North is similar to your observations in Melbourne. It's worth noting though, that EA should be the home-town favorite in your area though...

Thanks, guys. Will do.

While EA is local to us here in Melbourne, they're definitely focused on reaching the world market via Internet sales. They are happy to live in the lovely historical town of Creswick in country Victoria and produce world class software. Nice work if you can get it.
