Requirement - see links
« on: January 20, 2010, 08:00:54 pm »
If I click on a Use Case, there is a tab, where I can see, which elements are linked with the Use Case. It would be very nice, to see the same functionality on a Requirement.

I know you can see it in a Relationship Matrix. And also how to make it visible on a diagram. But... those are not the "fast lane" options.

Hi Marcello,

Some specialised element types (see particularly the XSDcomplexType) have a [UML] button that allows you to have access to the underlying Element dialog.

All such specialised elements should have the [Element] button to allow you access to the underlying element dialog.

If that would suit your needs, maybe you should phrase the Feature Request in those terms.

HTH,
Paolo

Hmm, I think my mind is quicker then my keyboard  :P

When I click on a Requirement, I mean in every occasion where I can click on it, like for instance when using the project browser.
And there is actually no [UML] button when I do it like that.
(Perhaps I misunderstood you.)

I found out, that there is a hierachy viewer, that will give me the information (after a lot of clicking and scrolling).

No, you understood me...  SOME specialised elements have the UML button - others (like Requirement) do not.  Why?  Why not all?

Yes, there are many ways to use EA's self-inconsistent UI to eventually achieve the outcome you want, but why make it so hard by making EVERYTHING subtly different from everything else...

BTW:  Be careful with the hierarchy view...  Use search to see how to avoid having it effectively "freeze" EA on non-trivial models.

HTH,
Paolo

I face the same need like Marcello - a quick way to show links (from Requirements property pop-up window - this would require a Tab, similar to e.g. Class/Package).
In analysis models, we draw realisation links with requirements, so why not having a uniform way of showing all the elements that realise a requirement?
Maybe this comes in EA Version 8?

I'd support this as a feature request
Orthogonality rules
Using EA16.1 (1627) on Windows 11 Enterprise/64 bit. Repositories in SQLServer2019 DB Schema 1558.
WebEA on Pro Cloud Server 4.2.64

Why don't you use the Relationships window?

That's a tipical sparx answer :-)

We build it like this, so get used to it  :-/

Well let's improve it, so the interface is usable.
What I say is that it would be handy, to see the same sort of things on an object. (I would say, this should be a requirement for EA, with below that some child req's about what exactly to see.)

That's not usually the purpose behind Sparx Systems responses along those lines.  We're trying to provide you with something immediate.

Something you can do now is always better than something you have to wait for.

I Agree, it's better the nothing  :'(

So let me open the Relationship-matrix, with all my requirements as a source, and my inmense model as a target.
I juest have to scroll for a centain time, to see, that my requirement has some dependencies. But... they are not visible in a clear way.
(Scattered around in my model)

When I click on a Use Case, and watch the Links-tab, this is a clear way! That's what Usability means....

Marcello, I didn't mean the matrix but the View/More Windows/Relationsships. I have it docked as an important window.

The problem with the relationships hierarchy window is that it is very slow on larger models.
The release notes for v8 indicate a major improvement in this area, but I haven't tested it myself.

It seems to be really faster to me. I never used it in the past because of its slowliness. Probably I will start using it instead of the Relationships window.

And btw.: You also did not get my point. There is another window for relationships (see the path in my last post).

You are right, I didn't get your point. :-[

I see now, haven't used that view before I must say.
(in my defense, they've really hidden it well  ;))

Gheghe, same here.
Love what I see there. I will tell this to my collegues, since they can use this view.

Let's see what's hidden in that "secret" place too :-)

Thanx for sharing :D
