selecting multiple elements in project borwser
« on: September 06, 2011, 03:39:42 am »
hi,

I am trying to find out how many elements I have in a package. So I select them all, but still no info on the display.
In a mean time, I have my display real estate polluted by default with information about Caps Lock, Num Lock, Scroll Lock.

Can we have number of selected things instead?

Cheers,
Pawel

I'm not sure if this is available in all version (it is with Corporate and above).  If you open up scripting an example script that ships with EA 'Recursive Element Count Example' will get the number of elements for the selected package.

You do realise you can turn off anything in the status bar? Right click on it and click on 'Status Indicators'.

Simon,
I was not aware of the feature (like probably many others). So I tried and unchecked the element name. But it doesn't turn the name of. It's still displayed. (I will not send a bug report....). Further the position does not show up in any way (I tried moving, selecting, creating an element in the diagram). (I will not send a bug report....) The help does not tell anything about the context menu you mention. (I will not send a bug report....)

Try doing a search for 'Status Bar' in the help. You'll find http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/9.0/getting_started/statusbar.html.

I know you're critical of our support, but all of those features work for me. (When selecting an element on a diagram the status text also displays the name and the type.) Although I'd be happy to help you, I don't have the time to investigate issues that you aren't reporting.

Simon,
I had found that page but it does not tell anything about the context menu you mention.

Nobody loves the bringer of bad news. I wouldn't be calling if there was no reason (though it might look as if it's just a game for me). I will not elaborate on my standpoint as I have done that before. My postings have run low anyway.

And by the way: I never had critics on Sparx Support. Your support is excellent and not comparable to any other company. My critics are always based on product issues.

P.S. The behaviour of the status line is even worse. As said, when selecting a diagram element it displays the name regardless of the setting in the context menu. But when you select an element in the project browser it leaves the name of the latest selected diagram element. (I'm using 9.1)

Right-click on Status BarConfigure the status bar; open a context menu that enables you to hide or show the element name, element coordinates, zoom slider or status indicators

As I said, the status text shows the name and type when selecting an element on the diagram. Selecting an element in the project browser does not result in a change to the status text. Further to the right is the Element Name section which is updated with the name (but not type) for the current selection in both places and can be toggled.

The ability to read actually would have helped me here....

However, the display of a diagram name although there's nothing selected in the diagram as the focus has moved to the browser is inconsistent (CCC). And the coordinates never show up.

I'm trying this here (9.1 on W7) and all 4 items toggle on and off as expected and display when individual elements are selected

.

When an item in the project browser is selected only the name appears.
Notes show no name, but boundaries do.

Selecting multiple items shows the position and size of the first selected item, but the name of the last selected item. (Hmmmm)

Selecting a connector shows nothing (name, type, length, directions, cardinality...)

In the future I'd like the option to see Type and Stereotype.
As noted prior an option to display the number of elements selected would be useful.

Interesting that the position does not display on my installation. Seems to be some kind of special bug. Well, I take it as it is...
