SharePoint support
« on: September 16, 2015, 05:17:15 pm »
A lot of our customers use SharePoint to store their documents. Apparently EA does not support editing documents stored in SharePoint.

Are there any plans to support SharePoint in the near future?

All elements in Sparx have a 'Files' tab which you can use to add a reference to a 'WebAddress', ie a document on sharepoint. Your user can then click the web address in Sparx to open the sharepoint document (assuming they have sharepoint access). You can also create 'hyperlink' object on diagrams in Sparx that can link to urls (amongst others)...

Regards,

Jon.

I probably didn't phrase the question cleary. The customer wants to store the Enterprise Architect file (.eap file) itself in SharePoint.
(not referencing documents)

Although you can upload an EA file to SharePoint, if you try to open it you get the following error message:

Could not lock file.

You are using the wrong tool for the job.

Sharepoint is designed to store documents.
.eap file is not a document but a database (MS-Access format)

You should not (try to) store databases in a document storage facility.
(would you want to put your SQL Server database in Sharepoint as well?)
