Using the "Callout" Shape
« on: March 16, 2016, 06:56:40 am »

I thought I had a use for the callout shape (in EA 1224).
Has anyone else observed the following, or found answers for them:
  • no matter which appearance I select (e.g. paper clip) it stubbornly remains the default
  • no matter what font I choose it remains italic
  • repeated new lines in the original text are ignored
  • I can't find any way of removing the centre justification of the text

I never knew a note had all those appearance options.

So in summary, a call out is a note with a set shape script that can't be changed, and the note options haven't been hidden.  But then that's not too much different than the ugly mind mapping diagram type.

It's a shape script. It overrides the appearance specified by the note display options, so the issue is that they are displayed in the menu at all. I suspect text is centered based on shape script instructions too.

There's a global option for italic note element text on the appearance page of the user options.

That just leaves omitting of newlines. I'm not sure why that is happening.

bug report reported

* appearance options shown on the menu are not applied to the element (e.g. Memo style) (I am confident that these used to work)
* the shape does not honour font settings (always remains italic). Please remove the fixed italic.
* repeated new lines in the text are not honoured. Please fix
* allow the removal of center text justification, or the specification of left, right, or none, text justification

Which shapescript options/commands are controlling the centering and italics?

Centering - h_Align
See http://sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/12.1/building_models/shape_attributes.html

Italics - If anything it's the global option 'Italic Note Element Text'
http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/12.1/the_user_interface/diagram_appearance.html
Thanks,

The Italics aren't controllable on the individual shape level then.

As it turns out, when I check, the "Italic Note Element text" option is not, and was not, selected.

Sparx Support have kindly provided the following response

  • appearance options shown on the menu are not applied to the element (e.g. Memo style)
[size=0pt]I will submit a feature request on your behalf so that this is considered for implementation in a future release.[/size]
  • the shape does no honour font settings (always remains italic). Please remove the fixed italics.
[size=0pt]To set the text to bold, italic etc, use the Set Font command. There is currently no way for shape scripts to control the font style, which is why the font styles set in the Note properties dialog are ignored.[/size]
  • repeated new lines in the text are not honoured. Please fix
[size=0pt]Our developers have confirmed that this is a bug and it is logged to be fixed. We cannot yet say when (in which build) the fix will be implemented.[/size]

  • allow the removal of center text justification, or the specification of left, right, or none text justification
I will submit a feature request so this is also considered for a future release.

Sorry about the bbcode, looks like a forum bug when text pasted into the text element.
