Diagram guides
« on: June 02, 2016, 03:30:35 am »
Hi.
I like to align a lot UML symbols in my diagrams. I use the align tool, but I'd like to have diagram magnetic guide lines, like the ones present in photoshop or other graphic programs, in order to use them for aligning symbols with less effort. Do you think that's a nice addition?

Sparx always had a hard time making the drawing part snappy. There's lots of space for improvement (those magnetic horizontal/vertical lines are one of that). But then when it comes to crowded diagrams you will find that they can hinder more than they help.

With a plugin is theoretically possible to change the GUI interface in order to implement them?

Not really. The problem is, that diagram operations are not directly reflected to the database but held in local storage until a save is made. You could theoretically create your own diagram window. But - only theoretically.

There is a smart grid mode. Is that anything like what you are asking for?

Beat me to it Simon!

See Tools | Options | Diagram | Behavior  Grid sub panel.

I know the grid and I use it but I think that guides are more suitable for aligments...
