Diagram alignment helper lines
« on: September 05, 2018, 06:36:42 pm »
At the very start of v14 I was excited to see new red helper lines when placing elements on a diagram.

Now for some reason I don't see them anymore :-[. Does anyone know how to turn them back on?

I'm on v14.0.1422

Thanks

Geert

In my b1426 they are pretty blue...

Don't know how to turn them on/off - but I'd better find out (via this topic) as I'm sure I'll have one of my users ask to switch them off.

Go to ribbon > Layout > Alignment and it's on the pull-down of the bottom right icon - Show smart placement guides.

Yes, they are blue, I somehow remembered them being red.

Thanks KP, that worked. I would have never found that option by myself.

Go to ribbon > Layout > Alignment and it's on the pull-down of the bottom right icon - Show smart placement guides.

Had this problem too: I would just add that 'Show Smart Placement Guides' will be greyed-out unless 'Smart Placement' (under the same menu) is selected first.

After some years I am trying EA again. Last month I tried VP (vis.paradigm).
Although I think EA is much better dan VP, the aligning is far less. Indeed the helper-line is not always shown. And it is not aligning every element on everything.
For example I like an action pin to center with the action.... no smart placement for this....

Also you need to click ctrl-q to get an extra point in a connector.... In VP just click , hold and move the connector. Straigten the connector or Double click on a connection-point and it will disappear. >> Update: just found out: it can be done with ctrl-click also  ;D

Some other nice features simular to this, that VP has: grouping elements and a magnetic-sweeper (which shortens the distance between elements)

I hope EA will make the aligning and layout helpers better!

Read about it

Interestingly the "show smart placement guides" option is ticked but greyed out for me, and no placement guides show when I manipulate elements (EA 1427)
