Print diagram full page
« on: August 27, 2020, 01:46:31 am »
Hi,
We've just migrated to v15.1, previously on v14.
On v14, I used to be able to print to PDF with my diagram taking up the whole page. Now on v15.1, nothing seems to work.
I've tried diagram properties Page setup as well as print page setup options. The result is always the same.
Using PDF Creator

Do you have results as I wrote in https://www.sparxsystems.com/forums/smf/index.php/topic,44472.0.html? I am also having problems exporting the report to PDF.

As a work around try printing using Microsoft Print to PDF instead.
Happy to help

Hi
I wasn't successful trying Microsoft Print to PDF.
I ended up using PDF Creator and a scaling percentage like 32%. I had to fine-tune the percentage by trial and error. It's a pity there isn't a more direct way to do this.
I had two diagrams to export to PDF and ideally I wanted both on A0 paper format (even though that's not so important in vector PDF). For some reason, one diagram was forced to A4 paper format I have no idea why !

We gave up trying to get decent print quality out of Sparx.

We select the content we wish to print from a Sparx diagram, then copy and paste that content into a standard-formatted, standard-size, Visio diagram, and print from Visio. We also generate PDF from Visio (save as PDF). The Visio contains corporate branding / decoration / banners / document control information / legends. We tried doing all of this in Sparx but gave up. Also - colour - same experience.

People have told me "Sparx is not a tool for graphic presentation - it's an architecture modelling tool" which I quite accept. Now. But if that's the case, why is there so much code in Sparx that tried to implement colour, tint, gradient, transparency, shading, image import, etc. when the quality of UX and quality of output is so ... average.

The UI design thinking behind formatting and printing in Sparx is incomprehensible. Needs to be completely redesigned and recoded.

Using v16 the diagram properties 'Scale to 1 Page' works for me to get a proper downscaled PDF printing. Maybe this has been fixed in later versions though it is referred in the 14.0 documentation.

I use the same method as Matsda - I set all diagrams to be A3, Landscape, with Scaling to fit 1 page, and when printing to PDF it comes out lovely. This works in v15 and v16.1
