Deleting connectors
« on: May 18, 2021, 07:38:12 pm »
When I hit Backspace it deletes the selected connector without asking. When using Ctrl-Backspace it pops up a confirmation message. I took that always for granted (it's EA, you know). But actually it's worth to be noted as weirdness of the day. When I'm sloppy EA just calls it a day. However, when I'm strict EA is strict too and just asks again. It should be the other way round, shouldn't it? Ah no, it's planet Sparx.

By "delete" you mean "Purge from the DB", yes?

We have our systems set up to ensure that only [Ctrl+Del] will purge, everything else merely hides or removes (as appropriate).

There's a setting that controls that - but I don't know how to find it.  When you first install and hit the [Del] key EA usually asks you what you want to do.  Our installation instructions say to set up in the way I indicated.

Maybe someone else can help locate the option.

@Paolo: Yes, delete from DB.

Well, that option is turned off. When checked it asks in both cases, but with different dialogues. It's just Sparxian.

I always keep that one on. I don't want to risk deleting connectors without confirmation.

Well, my point was a different one: inconsistency in dialogues and strange behavior as usual. Seems you are so much used to EAUI that this appears normal to you.

Don't remember saying something about normal or abnormal?
I try not to put too much energy in getting annoyed or worked up about the quirks of EA.
Some things are how they are, and they will never change. I often blame it on the fact that the designers live upside down ;D

Ah, no animal was harmed using this thread! Times when I really got annoyed by EAUI are long past. But every now and then I have the urge to pillory one of those awkward things in EA. That was just ONE of them. But like those songs that run in endless loops in yor head I suddenly had that WHY moment. I mean, pressing a single key (isn't there the "just D" deletion in the features or so; for sure but can't pinpoint it) to silently delete a thing and a more safe dbl-press which asks for confirmation. Who on Sparx had the idea to code that? I would understand if it were the other way round, but then still: which interface guide has such a crude thing? Probable even Mickeysoft has better design. It's all coz of the money. Just read what the Hitchhiker tells about the Sirius Cybernetics marketing department. Where is the revolution when it's actually needed?

Well, Sparxians live in a parallel world which is upside down from the northern hemispere as well as from down under...

q.

P.S. I remebered the triple weirdness: Ctrl-D works also silently on Features. Extra pleasure since Ctrl-C isn't that far off from my keyboard.

Actually the worst is when you select an attribute on a diagram and then press the delete button.
No confirmation or anything, it's simply gone.

The problem is that you do almost the same thing if you want to remove a class from a diagram, select the class and press delete.
If you by accident click one time to many and select an attribute, you are toast.
