Ways to edit "field codes" in document templates
« on: November 22, 2023, 03:38:02 am »
Hello,

the document generation in EA is somewhat "un-sophisticated". I'm having a lot of issues with the standard tools provided, e.g. with inserting sections in a document template. Selecting the sections from the board works, but moving the tags later to a different position seems to be impossible. Therefore, I have the following question:

Is there any possibility to edit the "code" used to generate the sections and other hidden information in the document template (something similar to editing the field codes in MS Word)?

I would very much appreciate any feedback on this point!

Kind regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

I'm afraid you are out of luck.
But the good news is that, with enough effort an patience, almost anything is possible.

Moving stuff to a different position can either be done by
- cut/paste, making sure you include the right section markers.
- first move the section up/down on the left pane, and then insert it into the document.

Also, sometimes EA (or is it the user) messes up and breaks a template beyond repair.
Make sure to enough enough backups or copies to go back to, because once a template is broken, there is no way to fix it anymore. You can only delete it and recreate it.
