Report Generation in EA 11
« on: April 24, 2014, 12:40:00 am »
Hi,

since I upgraded from version 10 to 11 my RTF reports don't work properly anymore. First, even if there is a cover page in my master template already, I have to select one, otherwise the first page will just disappear. If I add a cover page, the headers and footers (first page, left page right page) are really screwed up. The first and left page headers are taken from the cover page template, the right page header is always empty. And finally, if I set the page format of the cover page and the master template to A4, the cover page is correct, all other pages still use Letter format.

Regards,
Michael

I'm not sure a master template is required (or used) in v11. Unless I'm mistaken if you saved your master template as a cover page template then it would work much the same.

My guess is that both of these behaviors are due to a section break being inserted between documents instead of a simple page break. An example of the benefits of this is that you can use two different templates in your document where one might be in portrait and the other in landscape. Additionally, the headers and footers (including left/right or first page) can be set for each template used and they will be used in the generated document.

Edit: I've spoken to the relevant developer. Section breaks are only inserted if you have the option for page breaks turned on. If it isn't on then it may be worth turning it on. For other issues, feel free to submit a bug report. Ideally containing the report templates you're using and we can investigate further.

Well, setting the option helped a bit, but obviously there is an automatic section break added between cover page and master template that I cannot influence. So it switches back to letter format with the first page after the cover page. And if I don't use a cover page, the first page of the master template is remove, no matter how the option is set. And adding a blank page to the master template is not an option either, because then I can't have a different header on the first page.

OK, correction, the option didn't really help. It actually caused more problems because now there are additional empty pages. However, I could narrow the problem down. I now use a template for the cover page (without the cover page the first page of the master always disappears) and one for the master document. In addition I have templates for other parts of the document (e.g. diagrams). I had to change the page size to A4 in all of those templates and now at least all pages are A4 (as long as I don't use the page break option, in which case after the cover page there will be an empty letter page added). Also, the headers and footers are OK on the cover page and all even pages. However, on all odd pages there are now headers. I assume that in one of the templates there is a header defined, but I cannot see any. Is there a way to easily remove all header and footer information from a template? Also, I'm not yet sure if the header/footer information is taken from the cover page or the master template. The documentation also does not mention this.
