integrating EA with eclipse
« on: July 03, 2014, 06:08:17 pm »
To whomever it may concern,
Dear Sir/Madam,

I was trying to integrate Enterprise Architect, Ultimate Edition, version 11.0.1107 (Build 1107) without any success.
I tried to follow the instructions on the web-site

http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/mdg/int/eclipse/index.html

, but both Eclipse’s dialog boxes and EA’s dialog boxes are extremely outdated.

Could you please advise on the most recent version of these?

I tried to dig on separate directories and I found that the individual tools have been installed properly. All the relative plug-ins that live under the directory: C:\eclipse\plugins seem fine.
It feels that this is alright.
I believe that the problem comes from EA’s main window. Could you please provide any additional information?

My eclipse configuration is:
Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers.

Version: Kepler Service Release 2
Build id: 20140224-0627

Kind Regards,
Christos

First question is are you using the 32bit or 64bit version of Eclipse? It will not work for the 64bit version.

Well...... I am using the 64 bit version. There is no way I can get the 32 bit version. What other options have I got left with?

Please make this clear on the respective sections in the manual. I was glad that the most recent version of eclipse is supported, but the 64 bit I thought it should be standard.

On a separate front, it is already too much that EA works on windows only (wine is not considered a "clean" option and it is practically not used)

If you can't use the 32 bit version of eclipse then your option is to just use EA without the eclipse integration.

See the system requirements page for eclipse integration. http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/mdg/int/eclipse/sysreq.html

I understand that you don't like using wine to run an application, but it wouldn't be practical to re-write all of Enterprise Architect without use of any Windows APIs.
