BPD - Subprocess expansion
« on: June 17, 2009, 07:35:13 pm »
[Entreprise Architect Corporate Edition Version 7.5 + MDG Add-In or BPMN , Version 1.3]

Hello,

I am experiencing trouble with the expansion of subprocess diagrams into a main process diagram.

My intention was to create a BPD (BPMN 1.1) for my main process which is composed of one subprocess and few tasks.

I used graphical elements BPMN 1.1 Core Activity for both subprocess and tasks and positionned the tagged values "ActivityType" to "Sub-process" for the subprocess.
I then created a BPD (BPMN 1.1) for the subprocess by making it composite (advanced menu).
From the BPD of the main process, I checked the "show composite diagram" for the subprocess element.

I expected to visualise the BPD of the subprocess expanded into de main BPD but nothing appears like this.

Am I missing something or is it a bug ?
Can anybody save me, please  :-/

Here is the response the EA Team mailed to me :

The BPMN elements are all drawn using EA's shape scripting
functionality, and shape scripts aren't currently able to action the
"Show Composite Diagram" command.

I have logged this as a feature request and it will be considered for
inclusion in a future release of EA.

Many thanks.

You should get a + sign though to show that the element is composite and you can double click on the element to open up the subprocess diagram.

I do get the "+" sign and can double click to open the subprocess diagram. That works fine !
The problem is when you want to flatten your diagram, that is to say to visualise in ONE diagram the main diagram with expanded sub-process diagram.

The Ea team's response is clear ... it isn't possible, they'll considere this as a feature request for a future version ;)

Thanks anyway for your response !

Drag & Drop the sub-diagram into the main-diagram. Select the "Diagram Frame" option when EA prompts.

The sub-diagram reference shown in the main-diagram updates automatically when the sub-diagram changes!

Many thanks Luis ! This is a nice turnover to do what I needed without having the "Show Composite Diagram" command implemented  :)
