New Profile definition
« on: February 13, 2006, 10:23:45 am »
Hi there,
I a new user of EA and I find it very useful for designing with the UML. However, it is quite known that UML is partially lacking on the requirements side and in our projects we usually model requirements using the KAOS approach. To those who are not familiar toKAOS, it is the most known Goal Oriented requirements engineering method.
We have defined a UML extension for KAOS so I would like to include this extension in EA. I had a look to the related section (UML extensions) on the EA's Web site but complete information on the XML format (as they call it in this section) used to specify extensions is apparently not available.
I also had a look to the examples but they are poorly defined profiles (e.g. the WAE lacks of any tag value and constraints).

Can anyone shed light upon this topic?
Thanks a lot.

Eve

There's a help topic on creating profiles.

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/EAUserGuide/index.html?workingwithprofiles.htm

What it doesn't appear to say on a brief inspection is that you may need to add the profile folder into your toolbox.

Go to Tools | Options | UML | Element Toolbox.  To ensure that profile and all buttons within it are checked.

Hi Vperr, welcome to the forum.

You can create your profile from within Enterprise Architect using the above help file link, rather than having to create it manually or in another application.

Since you're a new user, you may not know this. I didn't when I made my first profile! :P
