EA 8 (857) on Windows 7?
« on: June 12, 2010, 08:24:00 am »
Is anybody running EA 8 on 64 bit Windows 7? I tried, failed, and gave up. As soon as I drag a drawing element onto a page, EA hangs. I'm wondering if this is specific to my system or if others have encountered it.

Hi Tom,

I'm running the latest and greatest version of EA 8 on an HP laptop with x64 Windows 7 and it runs fine...

Good luck,

It turns out that the problem appears to be display related. I tried it at home connected to a relatively low resolution external monitor and it was fine. When I hooked up to my higher resolution external monitor at work, with the display mode set to extend the display across the two monitors, the problem occurred. When I reset the display to only display on the laptop display (display 1), the problem went away. By adjusting the video resolution on the external display, I can get it to work in ‘extends’ mode as well.

So I'm pretty convinced that it is not a Windows 7 or 64  bit problem, but may be a minor problem with certain display configurations.

Hi Tom,

I run EA 8.0.857 on two different dual-monitor configs on Win 7 x64, both in extended display modes, and it works w/o a problem. I'm curious as to the monitors involved and their resolution.

I see the problem when I'm connected to a Samsung Syncmaster 204t in 1600 x 1200 mode. I have not seen it in lower resolutions. Also, I had EA opened on the internal laptop display at the time. My other external monitor (home) is an LG that runs at 1600 x 1050. I think the model is L206.
The laptop is a lenovo T61 with a 1400 x 1050 display.

Weird... I have an HP laptop with a 1280 x 800 display and work with a 1680 x 1050 Dell monitor at work and a 1920 x 1080 HP monitor at home, both in extended desktop mode and have never had a problem. In both configurations I have even had two instances of EA open at the same time - one visible on the laptop display and the other on the external monitor.
