Overview

The Pro Cloud Server (PCS) opens your entire enterprise to your modeling efforts. It enables you to integrate data from a wide range of third party tools with Enterprise Architect using the Server Based Plug-in Interface (SBPI) thereby maximizing the benefits of your Enterprise Architect repository.

Using the integration facility you will gain a uniform, cross-integration view of the data, making it easy for Enterprise Architect users to understand the data from multiple providers and integrations without the need to leave the tool.

Questions & Answers

1. This is excellent functionality - however we are not using any of the application with provided plug-ins. How much work involved developing your own custom plug-in?

Custom (proprietary) integrations can be created with any product that has a standard web service interface. This facility will both open up the contents of the Enterprise Architect repository to an external tool and make the information in the external tool available within Enterprise Architect. This will require some technical expertise to create an integration using one of a number of programming languages such as C++ or C# , but this only needs to be done once and can be used across any number of repositories. When installing the Pro Cloud Server, enable the 'SBPI Examples' component to include the custom integration examples. To write your own Custom Integration Plug-in you can either start from scratch or make a copy of one of the examples and modify it. The Plug-ins can be written in either C++ or C#.

2. I assume that definitions of data ownership is important when integrating tools that can do 'the same' to avoid multi master management. How do you handle if an element is updated in both EA and in the tool you integrate to?

The PCS configuration client lets you enable or disable permissions to update external data.

3. What is Wrike and how can it be used in conjunction with Enterprise Architect and the Pro Cloud Server?

Wrike is a project management software that can be used to define and manage project tasks. The integration can be used in several ways. For example, it would be useful to visualize the project tasks in Enterprise Architect, or for managing testing. Test cases and test procedures can be defined and could be related to implementation and specification elements in Enterprise Architect.

4. What is meant by the term "binding with a model"?

Bindings refer to the model connections that will have access to this Integration Plug-in.
