Create Linked Document Templates
To create a Linked Document, you can open an empty file and add the text and contents as you want. You can also base your Linked Document on a Linked Document template that you either:
- Select from a drop-down list of (initially) system-provided templates in the 'New Linked Document from Template' dialog or
- Create in the 'Linked Document Templates' folder of the Resources window
Linked Document templates that you create are added to the drop-down list on the 'New Linked Document from Template' dialog.
Access
Open the 'New Document Template' dialog using any of the methods outlined here.
When opened using one of these methods, the 'Template Type' field is set to 'Linked Document Template'.

In the 'New template' field, type a name for your template. |

In the 'Copy template' field, if you want to base the new template on an existing template, click on the drop-down arrow and select the name of the source template. Otherwise leave the field set to 'None'. |

Click on the . The template opens in the Linked Document Template Editor in the Diagram View. Create and edit the template contents as you need. |

Save the template (File > Save) and close the editor ( in the top right corner of the editor window). The template is immediately available for use. |

If you want to assign your template to another group, right-click on the template name in the Resources window and select the 'Move' option. The 'Enter the Linked Document Template Group name' dialog displays. In the 'Enter Value' field type a new or existing category name and click on the . The template is immediately transferred to the named group. |
Notes
- You can transport customized Linked Document templates between models, using the 'Configure > Model > Transfer > Export Reference Data' and 'Import Reference Data' ribbon options
