A scenario is a real-world sequence of operations that describes how the process represented by an element works in real-time. Scenarios can be created for any element - although they principally apply to Use Cases - to describe functional behavior, business workflows and end-to-end business processes.
You define scenarios in detail in the Scenarios View, creating new scenarios or editing existing scenarios; for each scenario you can then:
- Create a series of steps for each part of the scenario
- Structure the scenario to show how the basic path diverges into alternate paths and exception paths
- Generate a number of types of diagram from the structure
- Generate the structured scenario from an Activity diagram
- Generate the structured scenario from text on the clipboard
You can also create and review scenarios at two less-detailed levels, using:
- The 'Scenarios' tab of the Responsibilities window to create an empty basic or alternate scenario, or to simply list the scenarios for an element
- The 'Scenarios' tab of the element 'Properties' dialog to create scenarios, add, edit and format Notes, change the path type or change the sequence
To help you locate the elements for which scenarios have already been defined, you can run the predefined 'Find Scenarios' Model Search.
Select the 'Design > Element > Editors > Find Scenarios' ribbon option to automatically execute the search on the model, which displays a list of the elements that contain scenarios.
You can either double-click on an element or right-click on it and select the 'Properties' option, to display the 'Properties' dialog for that element. Select the 'Scenarios' tab of the dialog.
- The Scenarios displays do not prevent you from creating more than one basic path for the scenario on an element, but it would be unusual to define more than one
