- After you install Enterprise Architect, you can immediately begin to create projects as .qea files
- The latest evaluation and registered versions of Enterprise Architect are always available from the Sparx Systems website
- The registered version is available through the 'Registered User' area of the web site, which requires a username and password to access; these are provided upon purchase of a license

Installation on Linux and MacOS |
If you intend to run Enterprise Architect on Linux, refer to the Installing Enterprise Architect inside Wine Help topic. Under Linux, Formatted Notes text on diagrams might not display correctly. |

Install Enterprise Architect |
Execute the Enterprise Architect .msi file to run the Enterprise Architect set up program. Generally, you can accept all the default options without change. To place Enterprise Architect in a directory other than the default, enter the name of the destination when prompted. You might be prompted to restart your computer when the installation completes; although this is not always necessary (if you already have the components Enterprise Architect requires installed on your computer), you should restart just to be certain. |
|
Install Local Help |
When you select to display Help in Enterprise Architect, by default it opens the appropriate topic in the Help on the Sparx Systems website. You can, however, download the EAUserGuide.msi file from the 'Resources' page of the website, to install the HTML Help files on your local machine so that you can display Help information without accessing the Internet. Enterprise Architect should be restarted after installing the local HTML Help files. |

Using a Third Party DBMS as Model Repository |
If you plan to use SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Access 2007, or Oracle as a model repository, then you must use the Corporate, Unified or Ultimate Editions of Enterprise Architect. You also require additional files and supplementary installation processes; please note that installation and maintenance of these database management systems is not included under the support agreement. Users planning to use SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Access 2007 or Oracle as their model repository can access scripts that create the required data structures for the choice of DBMS, from the Sparx Systems website. |

Zero Config Client Support |
Enterprise Architect can be used on client machines without having to be installed on those machines. This can ease deployment in a corporate environment, by running the system from a read-only shared folder. This enables a System Administrator to install Enterprise Architect once for all users rather than once on each computer. |

Version Activation |
From version 14.0 onwards, Enterprise Architect requires that you 'activate' the Software Version you have installed. |
