9.3 selecting and moving connectors
« on: July 18, 2012, 11:19:44 am »

Has anyone else experienced  a lot more difficulty in EA 9 with selecting connectors, and with dragging an end or the entire connector to where you want it?

I have observed
  • difficulty or impossibility of selecting connector, or end of connector (see image above)
  • difficulty in dragging one end of a connector around the corner of an entity
  • connectors jumping from one position to another with no intermediate position
  • when moving one end of a connector only having the other end move anyway (grrrrr)

I'm surprised you have difficulty with the custom line style - I actually find it the easiest to use of all the line styles. Perhaps the "Information Engineering" setting is affecting things: that's done with shape scripts with non-rotating ends.

With the custom style, you might find it easiest to add an extra line point or two (Ctrl+Click) and drag the line points around until the end points fall into the right position and then remove the unwanted line points (another Ctrl+Click) to sort out the middle of the line. "Tools > Options > Diagram > Behavior > Auto Tidy" may also help. And if you have difficulty selecting a connector (and you have a mouse with a mouse wheel) then it's very easy to zoom in with Ctrl+MouseWheel for greater accuracy of control.

Thanks.

My problem was that I could not select/click on the line at all (where shown in the graphic) to add the extra line point (I had already added one at the other end of the line).

My work around ended up being to drag the line so it was long and elsewhere, add the extra line point, then place it back where I wanted it.

PS I also tried zooming it very large, and that didn't help!
It was close to the side of the page.
