Interface to Legacy Systems
« on: August 17, 2006, 03:56:58 am »
Does anyone have any experience of trying to model a Legacy System using EA?

The systems I am trying to model are a mixture of (mainframe based) Assembler and COBOL.

Looking at the Rational website, I notice they have an article which deals with "Automated Modelling of Legacy Systems Using the UML"- this talks about using a "Rational Rose COBOL Add-in" which will "abstract the legacy system in a model".

Is there a similar add in for EA?

If not, has anyone else any advice regarding the best way to go about this?

Well, if such a beast woud really exist, it would have solved many, many problems. But I guess this one exists only in theory. Even a well designed system is hard to document in UML once it exists and has a certain complexity. Obviously it will be much more difficult for these "legacy systems" which have a build-in complexity that for good reasons no one liked to touch - else it would not have become a legacy.
