Re: Importing OLE objects into EA object
« on: January 23, 2013, 01:06:39 am »
I wander if anyone has had this problem and could advise a remedy?

I am working with EA9, and trying to insert an OLE object (pdf) from a network file - here's what I did ....

(1) created an artifact (from the 'Common' toolbox)
(3)  right clicked, and selected 'create linked document'  (click ok at the popup)
(4)  with the cursor on the new document, right clicked and selected  <insert> ... <OLE Object>....select <Adobe Acrobat PDFXML document> ...
(5)  then select <name>.pdf in a network location

First of all a warning box popped up to say that the "SERVER Bysy" and that the action could not be completed vbecuase the other program was busy.  It prompted me to "switch to" activate the busy program and correct the problem"...which I did.... but it then went into a loop and I could not exit.
All I could do was to end the process using task manager and then restart..
Is there anyone out there ( ::)) who has any knowledge of this error and if so is there a remedy?
Many thanks in advance - Susanna

This is a Windoze pest, not an EA. To solve it copy the file to a local disk and repeat the import.

As said: Windoze pest. Maybe Win8 will solve it, but I guess basically there is still MSDOS deep inside.

Thank you both Stefan and qwerty - one mre ueston, ifyou iinadvertently delete an activity diagram from the Project Browser, is there any way at all to restore tat deletion?     I guess this is a rhetorical question as all the notes I have read say you cannot undo?

If you are working with baselines, auditing, daily saves of the complete repository(sql-backup, server-backup) or any other version control, you might have the chance to do that.

If you are just working on a plain file-based repository without controlled environment you will have lost it.
