GUI responsiveness under Wine
« on: May 30, 2013, 01:49:37 am »
Is there any way to get better GUI responsiveness in Enterprise Architect running under Wine? So far the only suggestion I've found is to enable the "Basic" renderer. It hasn't helped much, if at all.

I'm currently evaluating EA under Wine on Mac OS X. The GUI feels somewhat lagged, but the real dealbreaker is working with larger diagrams. When I open a BPMN diagram stretching over several screens, the navigation borders on being unusable. Clicking anywhere in the "Pan & Zoom" takes several seconds to take effect. Initiating a scroll with touchpad results in perhaps 10 or 20 seconds of slow, lagged scrolling. Scrolling by mouse wheel doesn't move the scroll bars. Even just selecting an element by clicking on it takes some 3 or 4 seconds to take effect.

I've tried running EA under Wine 1.5.31 and Crossover 12.2.0 (wine-devel and wine-crossover from MacPorts). The system should be more than sufficient to perform adequately. Indeed, running EA in a Windows XP virtual machine on the same system results in a much smoother experience.
