Sequence Diagrams
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:13:18 pm »
Could you please sort out the pointer detection in Sequence diagrams in v10.

Suppose I want to move a message from one instance to another because I have incorrectly placed it. I move the mouse over the message end I want to drag until the mouse pointer changes to a 45 degree arrow indicating I can drag the message. I click, and the instance is selected and moves. This can happen 7 or 8 times in a row until I actually find the ONE pixel which will allow me to move the message. Once the pointer is changed make it pick up the message. If I want to move the instance I will move it from the top.

Secondly I have added a self message I click on the message to select it then double click to add/select a message name and the diagram properties will open. This can also happen al lot until again I find the one pixel I am supposed to double click on without moving the mouse at all between clicks.

The fragment handling has been much improved in recent versions but the click detection on messages is frankly annoying.

I hope you also officially reported it as a bug?

Yes I have.
I was really annoyed about it this morning and succumbed to angry post syndrome. Then I calmed down and submitted a bug report. Combination of a hot office and being a numpty for putting the wrong instance on in the first place and it being annoying :)

You also have to be very careful when moving messages from one element to the other.
I've often seen that the message looses its link to the actual operation when doing something like that.
That problem isn't immediately obvious since the message still keeps the name of the operation. You can only see it when you go tot he operation and do a "Find in all Diagrams". If there link to your operation is lost it won't find the sequence diagram anymore (and so my EA Navigator won't find anything either).

Update on Bug Report

We have been able to confirm the issue described in your report and this
will be investigated further by our development team.

For now you can work around this issue by moving the cursor along the
message until it turns into the 45 degree arrow, then move it slightly
back until it turns back into the 4 way arrow, clicking at that location
will select the message and allow you to change where the message is
link too.

Intuative ;)

+1 from my side.

I have some sequence diagrams in which I want to exchange the life lines. I started doing that but gave up at some point. With this problem it became very cumbersome ...
