IE Version 11 not supported
« on: November 13, 2013, 10:32:59 am »
Hi

Windows very kindly upgraded me to IE version 11 and now none of my HTML documentation will display

After allowing blocked content, a dialog appears stating

Error: Access is denied

Any thoughts (apart from reverting back to IE 10 or trying another browser!)

Cheers

Phil

The safest machine is one where you have no rights at all. Isn't that the line Mickeysoft is leading their customers? ;D

At a guess, Microsoft has decided that the XMLHttpRequest is not safe on the local filesystem. (Other browsers have similar behavior with either never allowing it or defaulting to not allowing it)

The easiest workaround if I'm right is to download a webserver such as mongoose and then connect to localhost.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick, listen to  Cory Doctorow: The coming war on general computation

Isn't that exactly what he said? DRM is a way to make people under-age. Like he said: bank robbers use cars with 4 wheels, so try to fiddle around something so the car won't work and we will no longer have bank robbery. For that exact reason we see this "Access denied" so often.

The point being made is that its not the technology companies driving this, its the "big media companies", ie blame hollywood, not silicon valley.

Maybe. But why don't they (Mickeysoft) go their own way? Other companies have found better (though still not optimal) ways.
