Link Creation in EA
« on: September 12, 2006, 11:07:03 pm »
Dear Sir/Mam,

I am using EA for last 2 weeks. I was wondering that there was no help provided about Link Creation. I just wanted to confirm whether we can create Links in EA as in Telelogic TAU G2.

Please respond to my query.

Vibhu,
maybe you could explain how telelogic does this link creation. So other people with not telelogic background could answer your question too. I'm saying this because EA has a lot of features around creating links and it would be cumbersome to enumerate them here out of the blue.

Dear Sir/Mam,

We can create Link between two objects in Telelogic TAU G2 as well as Telelogic DOORS.  Can we do the same in EA also ?

As Thomas said, there are lots of ways to create links in EA.

As a start, try the following.
  • Add both objects to a diagram
  • Select one
  • Drag the arrow on the top right of the selected object to the other.
  • EA will then allow you to select what type of link should be created.

Hi Simon/Thomson,

Thanks for your response.

I am not talking about these Links. In Telelogic TAU G2 we can create Links in the Model View/Project Browser. This is not linking through the 'Generalization' and/or 'Association' elements. These symbols are the part of any diagram.

As you have told me, the links are being created through Generalization or any other EA element.

In Tau G2 when we craete Links between two objects in Model VIew, a red arrow is shown indicating the 'Source' of the link and a pink arrow is shown indicating 'Target' of the Link.

Can we create this type of link in EA ?

The short answer: no. EA can draw all kinds of UML relations in diagrams. But the Project view is just a tree to sort elements. I wonder how such a link should look like and how one could have an overview for all the relations that exist. Is there any public page to look at this?

As an alternative you should look at the Relationship Matrix in EA. Maybe this could give you an alterntive?

The alternative may be a Hierarchy pane - you see there all links of selected element in a tree.
