EA 19
« on: August 12, 2014, 07:30:09 am »
Hi,
I am hoping to do a total uninstall of EA 10. I have cleaned up the registry, appdata, programdata and uninstalled from the control panel. Still not getting a total uninstall.
The issue is on a tablet the user has options on an advanced tab. On her laptop the same options are missing. I have screen shots but no way to display here. Insert image does not work.

For missing options check View/Workspaces/Commands and check all options.

Is the user connecting with the same class of licence in both cases?

Some options are limited by the licence.

So you are trying to perform a complete uninstall of EA. You can do this on a laptop, but you can't do it on a tablet, there are still remnants of EA on this "advanced tab". Is that a fair summary? If so, can you tell us more about this tablet (e.g. make/model/OS) and this advanced tab (what actions are performed to make it appear?). I won't be able to help (I have seen these tablet thingies, but only from a distance) but I'm sure others will.

PS To add images to your posts, they must be hosted on the web somewhere.

NO. The tablet is fine. I need to do a complete uninstall of EA 10. Some config files are being left behind. I did clean up the registry, appdata, programdata and uninstall it from control panel. The config file is still hidden some where.
The laptop is missing options on an advanced tab, the tablet has those options.

Is this Advanced tab within EA? I can't see that it would be. I'd assume it is part of the Control Panel. How do you display it?

OK, second attempt... Your goal is not to uninstall EA, your goal is to figure out why some features of EA are available on the tablet but not on the laptop. Your guess was that the solution should involve uninstalling EA, but you say that it didn't seem to help. Have I understood this time?

If so, you will need to let us know the features that are missing from the laptop, how you reach them on the tablet, what mouse-clicks, keypresses, in which windows, which menus, what element/connector types, what diagram type. What version of EA are you running? What edition (Desktop/Professional/Corporate) etc etc.

"What edition (Desktop/Professional/Corporate) etc etc. "

I'm very suspicious about this part - hence asking if the same class of licence is being used...

I think you (and KP) are right, Andy. It's a bit hard to work out, but there seem to be two problems - 1) the Advanced tab or menu within a functioning EA not looking as expected and 2) EA not uninstalling as requested.

I'm also wondering about the versions of EA on the two devices.

I seem to remember things moving around, from one version to another, on the properties dialog for classes for example.

There is an "Advanced" on the properties dialog, which currently doesn't seem to contain anything...

Posting a screen shot on Picasa (or some similar photo-sharing site) and linking to that screen shot would help.

Example:

Sun Tzu: "If you sit by the river long enough, eventually the body of MS Visio floats past."

Thank you all. Apparently one of the config files was corrupt. I asked the user to uncheck all in -  View/Workspaces/Commands save the config file, stop/start EA and then go back and select complete and save that config file. The issue is now resolved, thanks again.

I like it when users solve their own problems.   Especially those where they can't properly explain what the issue is.    :)

Bang, bang. That's what my head often makes when I see posts where someone is very wishy washy in the problem description and a zillion posters try to assume what the problem is. This poster wasn't actually that bad ;)

q.

P.S. Oh. Looking again it's not a zillion but quite a number of "assumers"
