Hi peeps,

Just to let you know that this issue also affects the 32bit version of Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1.

We've just had KB2993651 pushed out here, and one of my users immediately started getting the BSOD when opening a diagram.

Upgrading to 11.1.1111 has solved the problem.

Hard to say, working on a diagram, and then blue flash. Can't recall anything specific, but I'm diving back in there now, so I'll try to monitor what I do!

OK, so two more crashes.
Both occurred when I was using the mouse to select multiple objects on a diagram by clicking and dragging to select the objects in the area of the screen.
FWIW clicked top right and selected diagonally down and to left.

I assume that it's not nice enough to provide a repeatable test case that you could send in. If I'm wrong about that, please do send us a model/steps to reproduce. It will be in some way related to the objects on a diagram.

What you can probably do right now to prevent the issue is set EA to use the basic renderer and disable GDI+ metafiles. At least that eliminated the issues we were having.

I seem to be able to BSoD it at will, so I've sent it thru to support.

OK, so these settings live under Tools > Options > Diagram > Appearance

Changing GDI+ metafiles makes no difference to whether the BSoD occurs.

But a BSoD occurs every time with Render: Enhanced-1, but not Basic or Enhanced-2

Thanks for sending in a bug report. When it became obvious that Microsoft wasn't going to release a timely fix we did our best to catch all the problems while we wait for a proper fix. Obviously there are some still around. Hopefully this one is something we can prevent easily. (Although the fact that it's only enhanced 1 renderer suggests a completely different problem.

)

The main reason GDI+ metafiles would cause the problem is copying an element from a diagram. Depending on your settings that will include a metafile on the clipboard.
