UML development tool has stopped working
« on: February 03, 2015, 03:37:22 am »

I am using Enterprise Architect version 11 and while trying to creating a project, although the database connection is successful, the application hangs towards the end with the message UML development tool has stopped working.

Has anyone come across this issue ?

No. Sounds like a funny message (since EA seems to be the tool?). Probably you should send a bug report (link bottom right of this page).

You should probably include more details if you want to get a useful answer.

I have seen EA flash this message on occasion. It's a "Stercus stercus morituris sum" message*, it is rare and indicates only that the client has collapsed, not that the repository has taken any damage. (That said, you'd be wise to run a project integrity check after seeing this.)

If it happens consistently during project creation, there's something funny going on. Have you initialized the database properly before trying to create the project? EA requires the tables to be in place, it can't create a project in an empty database.

I'm starting to get this message as well. It's been working fine on Windows 10 until a recent update to the OS. Now I keep getting this error any time I go a diagram with any tables/objects on it. I tried to change capability mode from 10 down to 7 but not luck.

I really can't afford to by v12 and really need to get this fixed.

I believe v11 is not supported on Windows 10

There's been some major security changes made by Microsoft to GDI, which is why Sparx has only officially supports recent versions on Windows 10.  The two things you could do is try Ea in compatibility mode (I doubt this will help) and email Sparx Sales and as for a quote for maintenance for your current licence.  This will be cheaper than buying a whole new copy.

I don't know the specifics of what is causing older versions of EA to stop working on Windows 10.  Unfortunately, since Microsoft can force a patch to all Windows 10 users that can break any application. The best that we can do in that situation is to release a new build for our users with current support to work around anything introduced by Microsoft.

I know that... but my point still stands and backed up by the web.

Yes, well. I wouldn't trust the web as far as I can throw it. Which isn't that far. (It's pretty big.)

Anyhow, I've seen the quote spelled a couple of different ways, so I'm not sure which is the correct Latatian.
I'm going to have to check this in my Gollancz 1st ed when I get home, aren't I? :)

Yes, indeed. As punishment, he should write it out a hundred times.
