Features are missing for me (but not colleague)
« on: February 26, 2015, 05:20:08 am »
So, this is an odd one.

Having had EA for a while but not really used it, I thought it's about time I learnt (there's only so much Visio I can take).

But I seem to be missing features compared to someone I work with, but we have the same edition installed (and with a registered key each).

In this case I wanted to look at an ER diagram for a PostgresSQL database, but am missing all of the code tools on the context menus. I thought I was going insane at first, but it's simply not there.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, although I don't think the uninstall was complete given it remembered a bunch of setting (I do hate it when an uninstaller doesn't actually uninstall everything, or give you the option of what to leave on your system).

This is a old version (9.3) which I thought I'd use for a bit and then see about trying to get us all upgraded to v12.

Has anyone else seen this issue or noticed other missing features?

Thanks

R

Try View > Workspaces and Commands and make sure you have the full command set switched on. (For EA 12, it's View > Perspectives).

Thank you KP, that's great. In this case it really was a feature, not a bug ;)

I feel foolish for having asked now, but I couldn't see this information elsewhere. I'm not sure why those options were disabled in the first place, but I will go in an enable everything.

Thanks again

The very first time (this version of) EA starts up after installation, it presents you with a "select your toolsets" type dialog, before even opening the main window.

This tends to spook new users into selecting something that sounds minimal and simple, with the effect that various bits of EA's GUI are hidden and there's no hint as to why.

I'm pretty sure this behaviour was changed in subsequent versions. Several new users have experienced this problem, I know that.

Cheers,

This (silly) dialogue was introduced some versions ago (can't recall which exactly) and I fell immediately into that trap. Since then "where is my menu" has become the favorite question replacing "red triangle". Why learn from bad experience and make things better if you still have the "easter egg menu"?

Ah, not just me then, cheers.

The problem here may come from the fact I installed EA some years ago, then promptly ignored it more than I'd intended.

Now I need to see if I can find a feature list to see what's new in V12 from V9 rather than V11.

(I would hope just "nicer UI" is in there somewhere, and looking at screenshots, that does appear to be the case).

Cheers for all the replies.
