Issue with 2 EA versions installed on 1 machine
« on: August 06, 2015, 07:10:06 pm »
Hi team EA and fellow users -

I had EA10 and EA12 installed in parallel, then decided to uninstall EA10 - this action seemingly broke EA12's scripting :-[

Actually not sure whether this is a bug or if we just "aren't supposed to do that".

Would be glad to know which it is.
Thanks!

I've had up to 3 versions of EA on my machine simultaneously without harm.  I regularly have had two over many years.

I only removed one once (from the three I mentioned above) with no obvious ill effects - admittedly I wasn't running scripting.

Re-install v12.  Even with my usual 2 versions I constantly update the latest version when Sparx brings out a new release - thereby uninstalling the previous latest.

HTH,
Paolo

I'd also suggest to re-install V12. That should fix things. Having multiple EA versions is a convenience, not an explicit feature. Next time simply delete the program folder instead of using un-install.

Technically you "aren't supposed to do that", but in practice there's not usually much ill effect. (I used to have every build since v4 ready to run on my machine)

Features that are bound to a single version:
  • File association
  • API (even add-ins could have trouble with accessing newer functions if an older API version is registered with windows)
  • Some SysML/BPMN functionality
Note - The presence of this list does not indicate that I or Sparx Systems are guaranteeing any other features will work for multiple versions.

If UAC is disabled or EA is run as Administrator, EA will set the first two of those each time it runs. If it's enabled they will only be set during install/uninstall.

Hello,

How did you go about installing multiple version of EA? When I install EA 12, the EA installer uninstalls 11 :-?.

I would also like the Lite version which allows to connect to our repository read-only.

Thanks

Rename the old EA program folder before installing the new version.

I'm pretty sure you can have EALite installed along with the full version. Just a (hopefully good) guess, though.

A correct guess. But there's only one that can be linked to the .eap file extension.
So the last one you installed will be the one that is started when double-clicking a .eap file.

Hello querty and Geert,

it works very well including the lite version. I installed the 11, 12 and 12 lite!

Thanks :)
