Can you Bend Links in diagrams?
« on: May 17, 2002, 11:39:44 am »
Is it possible to bend links in class diagrams.  For example I want to create an association between two classes, but the line ends up drawing right over some other class.  It would be much cleaner if I could draw an 'L' shaped association link.

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes, after draw the association, right click and set line style to aut-routing or custom.
Enjoy, :)

But I want to add vertices to the line.  Custom doesn't seem to do anything to a 2 vertex line.  I need to create a 3 vertex line to create the L shape.

Now it seems that using a combination of setting line styles I can end up with what I want.  But is there a simple way to create an complex links with lines that have various number of vertices?

Hi,

Yes, once the line style is set to 'Custom', right click anywhere on the line and select the 'Toggle Line Point at Cursor' context menu option   -OR-

Click on Custom line with cursor where you want new point (or where you want to remove a point) - then press Ctrl-Q

You can create lines of any number of points (within reason) using this method. Then drag the line into any shape.

If you prefer the Custom line style, you can make it the default using the View/Options Object page - default Connector Style setting.

There is also a setting on the View/Options Diagram page to 'Tidy' custom lines after moving. If the Auto Tidy check box is ticked, EA will attempt to regularize line segments after adjustment to horizontal and vertical if they are within the 'Tidy Line Gap' distance from horizontal or vertical. This is purely intended to help get nice looking lines without having to overwork the mouse.
