How to link diagrams to use cases?
« on: August 07, 2002, 09:31:03 am »
Hello,

I put use cases into the use case view folder and activity diagrams into the dynamic view folder. And that is where
I want to place them.

Now I would like to "associate" a use case with an activity diagram so that I can get more detailed information on the use case.

Is there a way in EA to link activity diagrams to a use case?

I could drag a diagram into the use case and place the created link near to the use case but this is not exactly what I would like to see.

I would prefer to add a link to the use case's properties where I could just click on the link in order to open the diagram.

Regards,

Frank

Hey Frank, this was one of my concerns. Mr Sparx points out that a diagram is not a UML element so there is no direct UML linking. However, from a CASE tool viewpoint you should be able to hyperlink from where you want to where you want. I would suggest that this becomes a requested feature.

Hi,

Links from elements to other diagrams -- ie. a 'See Also' type function - is definitely planned. I think a little popup list from a hot key or menu option ... which displays a list of related items. The list should also make its way into the RTF and HTML documentation.

This is a another high priority and should be available in some form soon.

Cheers,

There is an easy workaround

1) Create an Use Case in the Use Case View. I do it under the Use Case Model Package.

2) Select the use case in the project workspace window, click right and you'll be able to  create any Activity or Sequence Diagrams you like belonging to this use case.

3) In the diagram where you draw the actors and the use case oval simply drag the desired activity or sequence diagrams icons from the project workspace windows . A small icon appears on the diagram and you can esasily navigate to these sequence or activity diagrams.

I hope this is what you expected.

Hello all,

thanks for your answers. The 'See also' is exactly what I would like to see, soon.  :) ;) :)

A general hyperlink mechanism sounds rather interesting, too.

Cheers,

Frank
