EAToolkit
« on: June 04, 2002, 10:58:26 am »
I wanted to check out EAToolkit however, the web site (www.world-eit.com) has gone AWOL.  Is there an alternate download and info site?

Also, I'm interested in how to create plugins for EA, not just automate it.  Any direction that someone can give me would be most appreciated.

D,

The web site should be back up and running but it is not a ".COM" site.   It should be www.world-eit.net/ea/index.shtm.

Let me know if you have a problem getting onto it now that I am back in the land of the living.

Hi,

Okay, let me get on the horn with Earthlink and see what's happening.   After work today I have a meeting from 7 to 8 but will try to get ahold of them after that.   If not tonight then will do so tomorrow.   Sorry for the glitch... sometimes I wish I had my own hosting service <lol>.

http://www.world-eit.net/ea/index.shtm

this one works. Thank Steve for making it available.

Jim,

No prob.   Just tested it out myself and it seems to work here as well.   I'll be actually updating the content of the pages over the next couple of weeks.

Did you find a way to do that? At least, how to add custom toolbars or menu options that point to custom vb code?

I'm just making some research on it.

Thanks.

OK,

I just decided to take a look at EAToolkit, and then wished to remove it from my system (Win/2K Pro - latest patches).  However, the DREG program created problems and would not run.

This of course means that I cannot uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs selection in the Control Panel.

I went ahead and deleted all of the files, and then ran Norton Utilities to clean up the mess.  That took care of a lot of it, but I still had to go into regedit and clean things up, as well as the program menus.

This certainly discourages one from trying new software.

If you got the chance, use [glb]Windows XP[/glb] and set a system restore point before you install programs that don't have correct uninstall procedures and then you can restore it to the previous state if it all goes [glb]pearshaped[/glb] :)

Hi,

Sorry you had problems.  I was unaware of these issues and will look into them as I make modifications to EAToolkiT and other tools being developed.

However, "discourages one from trying new software" is equally discouraging.   Software, IMO, is constantly in a state of flux, or as I like to put it "Shift Happens".   Much of the shift is often caused from the simpliest (Microsoft changing something without telling us) to the complex (incompatible drivers, et cetera).   I can't convince you to try "new software" or not but those for myself I try to test as best I can and keep things as simple as I can before releasing.   Does that mean I miss something?   Sure it does.   But the ethical thing to do is to look into it and if possible, fix it ASAP.   The people at Sparx have shown this here on this forum.   But at some point, "new software" HAS to be tried... otherwise what are you left?  Running Wordstar, Visicalc, and dBASEII??   I for one hope not.

Just passing thoughts...
