Can classes default to other language?
« on: November 07, 2002, 12:01:28 pm »
G'day folks,

We've setup, via "Reference/Language Datatypes..." the datatypes for an added product not supported by EA -- SQLWindows.

Is there a way to setup EA so that all new classes, by default, have language set to SQLWindows, instead of being limited to the language choices supported by EA?

IF NOT, could this be added as a feature to EA?  Maybe code generation could be disabled for unsupported language products?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers and best regards.

Hi Jason,

As I'm sure you are aware, it is easy to add a new language and new data types for that language; but I haven't been able to set this new language as default, either: the only languages I can have as default are the ones that have icons in the View --> Options tree.

While Sparx fixes this (or answers, and thus brings us out of our ignorance), I suggest a quick and dirty solution: take the existing language that resembles SQLWindows (that used to be Gupta, am I wrong?) the most, modify its data types as needed, and set it as the default language.

This is not the most elegant solution, but I hope it helps!

Thanks Jaime,

I think that solution will do just fine for now. Much appreciated.

BTW:  Yupper.  Gupta SQLWindows now part of Gupta/Centura Team Developer (SQLWindows, Report Builder, SQLTalk, Team Object Manager).
Cheers and best regards.

I'd second the request to be able to set default language for elements to other than the predefined set.   When doing the initial high-level design we quite often don't know the language to be used yet and having one on the documentation can be misleading.

Perhaps <Unspec>, <N/A> or something equally vanilla could be a default option.
