Scalability of EA
« on: September 23, 2003, 08:09:39 am »
A colleague and I have spent a few hours playing around with EA and we like it a lot.

Our most pressing problem (apart from generating reports/documentation) at hand is that our current tool, Visio Enterprise Architect, has "hit the roof". We originally intended to keep our whole system in a single model for traceability reasons, but even though we have now broken it into three separate models, the main model sometimes takes minutes to switch between diagrams even on a reasonably speced machine.

Can anyone provide some metrics of models/systems you have created in EA?

Cheers,
Ola

G'day Ola,

Don't know if this is of any help, but I'll throw some EA project statistics on one project:

Total Packages: 707
Total Elements: 2546
Connections: 1242
Diagrams: 326
Diagram Objects: 2818
Attributes: 1634
Tables: 233
Requirements: 337

Haven't "hit the roof" yet.  Performance of the product is still awesome.
Cheers and best regards.

No roof with:

Total Packages: 2396
Total Elements: 4587
Connections: 2606
Diagrams: 427
Diagram Objects: 2604
Attributes: 4885
Operations: 4997
Tables: 1
Requirements: 309 ( :-/)

Loading the project over a network takes some 20 secs, but after that, no noticable slowdown whatever action.
