HowTo question...
« on: October 14, 2003, 03:42:53 pm »
I've downloaded a demo of EA and am loving the app, if my company doesnt buy it for me, I might just ahve to do it myself.

Anyway, got a question, maybe I've just missed it somewhere, but is it possible to Import/Export diagrams, specifically a class diagram, to some other application, say Visio?

How would I go about doing that?

Thanks,
--JR

G'day JR,

I've no experience exporting/importing to/from other tools.

Take a look at on-line help to get you started: Model Management / Import and Export.
Cheers and best regards.

I was able to export a fairly large model from Rose to EA without too much trouble using XMI 1.0.  It needed a little clean-up work but nothing to big.

During our eval of EA I was doing some research on import/export with Visio. I was unable to get it to work correctly with Visio Professional but have heard that it works with Visio Enterprise Architect (the version that comes with Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Architect 2002)

I was able to find a plug-in that said that it would work with Visio Pro but did not have any luck getting it to install. (Even with the help of some support staff at MS.)

plug-in link:

Visio's XMI support is sad at best.

There is a visio XML add-in from Microsoft that provides XMI export of class diagrams only.  No import at all.
