Relationship matrix - multiple levels?
« on: November 11, 2003, 10:18:43 pm »
I'm new to EA and have what may be a basic question.

In my project I have a set of Rules, which are realised by Business Requirements.  These Business Requirements are in turn realised by Functional Requirements, e.g. Rule ABC is realised by Bus Req 1, which is realised by Func Reqs 1, 2 and 3.

I have set up relationships between the Rules and the Bus Reqs; and between the Bus Reqs and the Func Reqs, using the relationship matrix in EA.

I now want to view the relationships between the Rules and the Functional Requirements but when I set up this matrix, there are no existing relationships shown even though they are implied by the intermediary Business Requirements.

Surely I don't have to re-enter the relationships do I?  How can I use the matrix viewer to show me which Func Reqs are related to a Rule?

Sorry for being so long-winded and I hope this makes sense.  All answers appreciated.

Hi Peter,
I would love the feature you're requesting, but it is probably asking too much. The "hierarchy" window will (sometimes, but far from always - some kind of bug there) do what you ask "manually", on a requirement by requirement level.

I haven't explored the RTF report generation options, maybe there is something there?

Otherwise, I would use the automation model to build a report generator to do it.

Cheers,
Ola

Given all the work that goes into making element associations in a model, it would seem reasonable that reporting "chains of association" would be a built in feature. It's common in qualitative analysis tools, where queries to semantic networks result in chains of associated items.

It really wastes much of a model's content value to not have this capability.

Hi,

I would like this feature too and I don't think it's an unreasonable request.
